PIERCE COUNTY: SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT TO OFFER COMMUNITY ACADEMIES NEXT YEAR
Full Description:
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department will offer two community academies in the first months of 2007.
The first is for University Place and Peninsula residents. It will run from Jan. 11 to April 5. Classes will be held Thursday evenings at the University Place Police Station, 3631 74th Ave. W., Suite A.
The second is targeted at residents of South Hill and the surrounding area. The Wednesday classes begin Feb. 7 and run until May 2 at the South Hill Precinct, 271 John Bananola Way E.
The classes meet one night a week from 7 to 9:30 and are free to people who want to learn about law enforcement.
Participants take field trips to the 911 Communications Center, Pierce County Jail and the department’s firing range. There is a hands-on driving lesson planned for a Saturday.
Each academy is limited to 30 people and registration is first come, first served. Applicants must be more than 16 years old and residents of Pierce County.
Applications are available at www.piercesheriff.org, from the University Place Police Department, the South Hill Precinct or by calling 253-798-6646.
